എസ്സെൻ

ജർമ്മനിയിലെ ഒരു പ്രധാന പട്ടണമാണ് എസ്സെൻ. റൈൻ നദിയുടെ കൈവഴികളായ റൂർ, എംഷർ നദികളുടെ തീരത്ത് സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന എസ്സെൻ ജർമ്മനിയിലെ ഒൻപതാമത്തെ വലുതും, നോർത്ത് റൈൻ-വെസ്റ്റ്ഫാലിയ സംസ്ഥാനത്തെ നാലാമത്തെ വലുതും, റൂർ നഗരമേഖലയിലെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ വലുതുമായ നഗരമാണ്. എ.ഡി. 845-ലാണ് നഗരം സ്ഥാപിതമായത്.
