Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System (GISRS)

The U.S. CDC, located in Atlanta, Georgia, was designated a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center for Surveillance, Epidemiology and Control of Influenza in 1956. Since then it has played a leading role in the global network. The network, now called the Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System (GISRS), is celebrating its 65th Anniversary this year. CDC Collaborative Study: Improved Global Capacity for Influenza Surveillance

International influenza laboratory and surveillance work. A study by CDC authors published today in the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases found that CDC’s international capacity-building efforts over a 10-year period (2004-2013) have led to substantial improvements in foreign countries’ ability to conduct influenza surveillance and detect emerging virologic threats.

Laos and Nicaragua Expand Flu Protection with Help from CDC and Growing Partnership
