Hospital Abstracting

Abstracting is the process of verifying that information submitted on an event report represents a reportable case, and updating vital status and other follow-up information for patients with an abstract in the cancer registry.

Implementing this use case will improve the accuracy of demographic information, as electronically transmitted reports can populate the cancer registry abstract directly. Additionally, by allowing more than one completion flag to be set, the registry can report basic incidence information to the central cancer registry in a more timely manner; a complete abstract that includes stage and treatment data no longer will be the sole trigger to report the cancer case.

The use case is the business process of a hospital cancer registry and its interaction with internal actors (those who perform the process) and external actors (recipients of the process).
