Physical Activity Among Youth

Among youth, only 27.1% of high school students reported levels of physical activity consistent with meeting the youth aerobic guideline in 2015 (see figure below). Male high school students and students in lower grades were more like to meet the guidelines.

In 2015, the percentage of high school students in the United States who met aerobic physical activity guidelines vary and is grouped by the categories of sex, grade, and race and ethnicity. In the sex category, 36 percent of high school students are male while 17.7 percent are female. As far as grade levels, 31 percent of high school students are in ninth grade, 27.8 percent are in tenth grade, 25.3 percent are in eleventh grade, and 23.5 are in twelfth grade. In regards to race and ethnicity, 29 percent of high school students are white,  24.2 percent are black, and 24.6 percent are hispanic.
