Self-Management Education Issue Briefs

CDC conducted two meta-analyses, combining the results of all available research studies and program evaluations on two self-management education interventions, the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) and the Arthritis Self-Management Program (ASMP), which documented improvements in health behaviors such as exercise, and psychological well-being, such as reduced depression, fear, and frustration, along with increased energy and confidence in their ability to manage their condition.

CDC produced two issue briefs based on the results of these meta-analyses. One issue brief is designed for organizations that are considering adopting CDSMP and/or ASMP, with a key message that adopting these interventions can help members of the community thrive. A second brief is  designed for health care providers with the key message that recommending these evidence-based community programs can complement clinical care and help chronic disease patients live happier, healthier lives.
