ভারতীয় সেনাবাহিনী
ভারতীয় সেনাবাহিনী (भारतीय थलसेना) হচ্ছে ভারতীয় সামরিক বাহিনীর বৃহত্তম শাখা। এই শাখার উপর ন্যস্ত রয়েছে যাবতীয় স্থলভিত্তিক সামরিক কার্যাবলির দায়িত্ব। এই বাহিনীর প্রাথমিক লক্ষ্যগুলি হল: বহিঃশত্রুর হাত থেকে দেশকে রক্ষা করা, আভ্যন্তরিন শান্তি ও নিরাপত্তা রক্ষা করা, সীমান্ত প্রহরা ও সন্ত্রাসবাদবিরোধী অপারেশন পরিচালনা করা। এছাড়াও প্রাকৃতিক দুর্যোগ ও অন্যান্য দুর্বিপাকের সময় উদ্ধারকাজ সহ বিভিন্ন সমাজকল্যাণমূলক কাজও সেনাবাহিনী করে থাকে। ভারতের রাষ্ট্রপতি সেনাবাহিনীর সর্বাধিনায়ক।

ভারতীয় সেনাবাহিনী পৃথিবীর তৃতীয় বৃহত্তম সেনাবাহিনী।[1] এই বাহিনীতে কার্যরত সেনা-জওয়ানের সংখ্যা ১,১৩০,০০০ জনেরও বেশি এবং সংরক্ষিত ট্রুপসের সংখ্যা প্রায় ১,৮০০,০০০ জন।[2] এটি সম্পূর্ণত স্বেচ্ছাসেবক সংগঠন। যদিও ভারতীয় সংবিধানে সামরিক পরিকল্পনার একটি উল্লেখ থাকলেও তা কখনও বাস্তবায়িত হয়নি।
১৯৪৭ সালে স্বাধীনতাপ্রাপ্তির অব্যবহিত পরেই ব্রিটিশ ভারতীয় সেনাবাহিনীর অধিকাংশ রেজিমেন্টকে একত্রিত করে ভারতীয় সেনাবাহিনী গঠিত হয়। রাষ্ট্রসংঘের শান্তিরক্ষীবাহিনীর সদস্য হিসেবে বিশ্বের বহু অশান্ত অঞ্চলে ভারতীয় সেনাবাহিনীকে নিয়োগ করা হয়েছিল। বর্তমানে ভারতীয় সেনা প্রধান জেনারেল বিপিন রাওয়াত। ফিল্ড মার্শাল এই বাহিনীর সর্বোচ্চ পদ। ভারতের রাষ্ট্রপতি কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের পরামর্শক্রমে অত্যন্ত ব্যতিক্রমী পরিস্থিতিতে এই পদ প্রদান করতে পারেন। অদ্যাবধি মাত্র দুজন অফিসার এই পদে অধিষ্ঠিত হয়েছেন।
