Data Map (US) Example 3 -- Equal Interval vs. Equal Number (Quantile)

When you build a map in the WCMS, one of the key properties you set is the classification type:  Equal Number (Quantile), Equal Interval, or Categorical. The first two options are for quantitative maps. This page includes two examples to illustrate the two types of quantitative data maps. The first map uses an “Equal Interval” classification. The second conveys the same data but uses an “Equal Number” classification, also known as quantile. The equal interval classification is good for showing outliers — for example, Utah and California in the first map.
