Anthony Mounts, MD

Dr. Anthony Mounts originally trained in clinical medicine, with a background in pediatrics, internal medicine, and adult infectious diseases. After several years of clinical work in the Appalachian Mountains of the U.S. and the highlands of Papua New Guinea, he joined the Epidemic Intelligence Service of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). After EIS, he was seconded to WHO in Pakistan for six years as national team lead of the polio eradication program. Upon return to the CDC he joined the Influenza Division as  team lead for the International Surveillance and Epidemiology team overseeing the development of influenza projects and capacity building around the world.

In July of 2009, he was again seconded to WHO as the team lead of the Epidemiology and Monitoring team of the Global Influenza Program. He served as the Technical Lead for the WHO response to a novel coronavirus in the Middle East until moving to Vietnam to assume the role of Resident Advisor for the Field Epidemiology
training program.
