Laura Kann, PhD

Since 1987, Dr. Laura Kann has worked in the Division of Adolescent and School Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention where she is currently a Senior Scientist and Chief of the School-Based Surveillance Branch. Her primary area of interest is domestic and international school-based survey research. She manages four large surveillance systems (the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System, the School Health Policies and Practices Study, School Health Profiles, and the Global School-based Student Health Survey). Dr. Kann has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications. She received a B.S. in school health education from the University of Illinois in 1982, an M.S. in health education from the University of Illinois in 1983, and a Ph.D. in health behavior with a minor in measurement and evaluation from Indiana University in 1987. Dr. Kann is a past president of the American School Health Association (1997-1998) and a past president of the Rotary Club of Dunwoody (2011-2012).
