Key Messages for Providers

  • Uterine cancer most frequently presents with abnormal bleeding, but also can have urogynecologic symptoms.
  • Average-risk patients without risk factors should not get routine screening for uterine cancer.
  • Patients with an intact uterus must take progesterone if they are taking estrogen.
  • Talk to your patients about risks and benefits of oral contraceptives.
  • Encourage healthy weight, with a body mass index (BMI) between 18.5 and 24.9, since obesity is associated with an increased risk of uterine cancer.
  • If a patient has suspected or confirmed uterine cancer, refer her to a gynecologic oncologist.
