Key Messages for Providers
- Uterine cancer most frequently presents with abnormal bleeding, but also can have urogynecologic symptoms.
- Average-risk patients without risk factors should not get routine screening for uterine cancer.
- Patients with an intact uterus must take progesterone if they are taking estrogen.
- Talk to your patients about risks and benefits of oral contraceptives.
- Encourage healthy weight, with a body mass index (BMI) between 18.5 and 24.9, since obesity is associated with an increased risk of uterine cancer.
- If a patient has suspected or confirmed uterine cancer, refer her to a gynecologic oncologist.
