A 52-year-old woman complains of vaginal spotting. Menarche occurred at age 12, and her last menstrual period occurred about 3 years ago. She has four children. She is not sexually active and does not drink alcohol or use tobacco or illegal drugs. Her father died of colorectal cancer at age 49, and her aunt had uterine cancer (her age at diagnosis is unknown). On physical examination, her blood pressure is 140/80 and her body mass index (BMI) is 30.
