The Johns Hopkins Prevention Epicenter

Overview: The Johns Hopkins Prevention Epicenter includes a multi-disciplinary collaborative team of researchers and faculty from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. The research team has expertise in infection prevention surveillance, implementation sciences, and antimicrobial stewardship. The Epicenter goal is to improve the safety of patients and healthcare workers in hospital settings by evaluating best ways to stop the spread of infectious germs, including how to wear personal protective equipment, preventing self-contamination with and spread of infectious germs, and exploring ways to ensure the hospital environment is clean.
Research Study Areas:
- Develop strategies to reduce risk of healthcare worker self-contamination
- Identify factors associated with optimal cleaning of the hospital environment, and then develop multifaceted intervention package to optimize environmental cleaning and disinfection
- Measure the impact of contact precautions in preventing transmission of bacteria that are resistant to multiple drugs used to treat them
