Overview: The Prevention Epicenter of Emory and Atlanta Consortium Hospitals (PEACH) includes a multi-disciplinary team from Emory University, Georgia State, and Georgia Institute of Technology consisting of nurses, physicians, architects, human factors engineers, microbiologists and healthcare epidemiologists. The goal of PEACH is to translate microbiological, epidemiological, and technological discoveries into new strategies to reduce the spread of dangerous germs like Ebola. Their work will include rapid prototyping in simulation labs, quantifying and visualizing spatial metrics using special analytic tools, and utilizing novel technologic approaches enhancing hand hygiene adherence.
Research Study Areas:
- Analyze ways to minimize risk of self-contamination during complex process of taking off (doffing) personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Reduce risk of self-contamination during the complex process of taking off (doffing) personal protective equipment (PPE) using virological and human factor analysis
- Provide feedback to healthcare workers using novel methods to improve hand hygiene adherence and compare effectiveness of various feedback strategies
