Advanced STD Intervention (ASTDI)

Registration: See instructions on how to apply through the CDC TRAIN system. All courses are free of charge to eligible participants who have been approved to attend by their managers; however, PDQIB cannot pay for any travel or per diem expenses associated with these courses.

Background: Four-day course addressing advanced STD intervention skills required of the Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS). Emphasis is on advanced case management/case analysis, including Visual Case Analysis (VCA) and advanced syphilis interviewing techniques.

Objective: The course is designed to provide DIS the necessary advanced skills in STD case management/case analysis and interviewing to perform the comprehensive STD intervention required to address syphilis elimination objectives.

Methods: Some lecture and after-class reading assignments, with the predominance of the course involving case studies, role plays, and exercises.

Eligibility: DIS with more than 6 months experience.

Pre-requisites: Course participants must have successfully completed the appropriate tracks in Passport for Partner Services.

Minimum/Maximum Number of Participants: The course is designed for 12 to 16 participants and enrollment will be limited to 16, unless approved in advance by PTB. Enrollment of fewer than 8 may require cancellation of course. Local “sponsoring” agency may enroll no more than eight participants. The remaining slots will be opened to surrounding areas.
