Meta-Leadership Summit for Preparedness Initiative

Program Overview

Purpose

The purpose of the Meta-Leadership Summit for Preparedness Initiative (MLI) was to bring together business, government, and nonprofit leaders to address the need to improve cooperation and connectivity in preparing for and responding to natural and man-made disasters. The goal of the initiative was to facilitate the development of city/state, multi-sector organizational connections and individual partnerships before disasters occur.

Partners

The Meta-Leadership Summit for Preparedness Initiative (MLI) was a collaborative Initiative of the CDC Foundation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Harvard University, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The CDC Foundation directed the program and experts from CDC’s Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response (OPHPR) provided technical assistance on curriculum design and coordinated program evaluation. CDC also coordinated follow-up activities at each Summit site. Harvard faculty members, Drs. Lenny Marcus and Barry Dorn, whose research on Meta-Leadership has played a key role in shaping strategic thinking on preparedness and emergency response, developed and presented Summit curriculum. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation provided funding for the Initiative.
