Musculoskeletal Health Council

The NORA Musculoskeletal Health Council brings together individuals and organizations to share information, form partnerships, and promote adoption and dissemination of solutions that work. It was formed in 2017 for the third decade of NORA. The Council seeks to facilitate the most important research, understand the most effective intervention strategies, and learn how to implement those strategies to achieve sustained improvements in workplace practice. Contact the Co-Chair or NORA Coordinator with any questions, comments, or to volunteer.

Meetings and News

The NORA Musculoskeletal Health Council is currently working to create a research agenda for the third decade of NORA. It will be available for public comment later in 2017.

Cross-Sector Description

The NORA Musculoskeletal Health Cross-Sector focuses on preventing musculoskeletal disorders, which are soft-tissue injuries caused by sudden or sustained exposure to repetitive motion, force, vibration, or awkward positions. Musculoskeletal disorders are ubiquitous in all industries. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, these workplace injuries comprise over 1/3 of all lost-time workplace injuries in 2015. Occupations with particularly high rates of musculoskeletal injuries include laborers and freight, stock and material movers; nursing assistants and registered nurses; truck and delivery service drivers; and maintenance and repair workers.

Information is available about the NIOSH Musculoskeletal Health Program, which facilitates the work of the Council
