Paramedian arteries

The paramedian arteries (posteromedial central arteries) [also referred to as paramedic pontine arteries] are arteries which supply part of the thalamus and other structures in the region. Uncal herniation can cause compression of the paramedian arteries and can result in a Duret haemorrhage.
