This page provides some resources on various activities conducted by NIOSH researchers.

NIOSH Sound Level Meter App
The NIOSH Sound Level Meter mobile application is a tool for iOS devices to measure sound levels in the workplace and provide noise exposure parameters to help reduce occupational noise-induced hearing loss.

NIOSH Power Tools Database
Noise level of power tools as they are used on the job. The database contains such information as sound power levels, sound pressure level and downloadable exposure and wave files. Further, links to the NIOSH Hearing Protector Compendium are included to assist in choosing appropriate hearing protection.

NIOSH HHE Program Noise Measurement Database
This database contains noise measurement results from NIOSH Health Hazard Evaluation (HHE) surveys from 1996 – 2012 to help employers, researchers, and other stakeholders identify, study, and manage occupational noise.

NIOSH Noise Meter
This Flash application plays different sounds and sound intensities of everyday objects, and shows how long it takes before a particular sound level becomes dangerous to the human ear.

So How Accurate Are These Smartphone Sound Measurement Apps?
NIOSH science blog on study to evaluate the accuracy of smartphone sound measurement applications (apps).

NIOSH Hearing Loss Simulator
The NIOSH Hearing Loss Simulator is a software training and communication tool for promoting hearing loss prevention. It allows a user or trainer to demonstrate the effects of noise exposure on hearing without experiencing an actual noise-induced hearing loss.
