ERGONOMIC INTERVENTIONS IN SHIPYARDS
Hazard: Many small metal pieces are combined in creating sub-assemblies. Material can either be moved by hand or by using a small parts magnet. Upon sudden loss of electricity it is possible for a magnet to drop its load, possibly resulting in foot and leg injuries.
Solution: The small parts magnet pictured below provides a circular handle for the worker to grasp while moving the load. In addition, if the magnet drops the load unexpectedly, the worker's feet are not directly under the load due to the handle keeping the worker farther away from the load.
