ERGONOMIC INTERVENTIONS IN SHIPYARDS

Hazard: The location of plate stiffeners is marked on the plate using chalk or paint markers. Bending over to mark the plate at floor level causes stress on the back and neck (see photo).

Solution: The chalk or paint markers can be attached to a long handle or broomstick to allow the worker to assume a more upright posture while marking stiffener locations on steel plate.
