ERGONOMIC INTERVENTIONS IN SHIPYARDS

Hazard: Manual material handling of components in the shop can be major source of back, shoulder and arm injuries.

Solution: Wheeled scissors lifts and other lift tables can be used to transfer items from one working surface to the next while minimizing manual handling of the object (see photo 1). Lift tables can also be used as temporary work surfaces allowing the worker to adjust table height to one appropriate with the proposed work (see photo 2).
