2nd International Symposium to Advance Total Worker Health®

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is pleased to announce the call for abstracts for the 2nd International Symposium to Advance Total Worker Health®. The conference will be held May 8-11, 2018 at the Natcher Conference Center at National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. The purpose of the conference is to convene researchers and practitioners from the United States and abroad that are making important contributions to advance Total Worker Health research and practice. We invite you to contribute to the 2018 Symposium by submitting an abstract.

Symposium Theme and Goals:

The 2018 Symposium theme is Work & Well-Being: How Safer, Healthier Work Can Enhance Well-Being. The goals of the conference are to 1) reaffirm our dedication and commitment to safety and health, 2) redesign the way we lead, supervise, and organize the work environment, and 3) to reveal novel research and strategies to improve worker well-being, establish new links between work and the risks for chronic disease, and advance the Total Worker Health field.

Abstract Themes and Topics of Interest:

Theme-related topics include:

    • Workplace risks & health outcomes
    • Health & the work environment – Optimizing organizational policies & practices
    • Approaches to supervision & employee relations & links to health
    • Changing workforce demographics
    • Work-life continuum & implications for well-being
    • Work design & new technologies
    • Globalization & the international economy: Implications for Total Worker Health
    • Partnerships & collaborations
    • Advancing the state of the science for Total Worker Health: Methods for research & interventions

Proposal Submission:

We are seeking abstracts for poster presentations, plenary sessions, concurrent sessions (symposia and brief scientific paper or practice/intervention sessions), and pre-conference workshops. A conference participant may submit a total of no more than three proposals.

Abstract Submission Deadline:

All abstract submissions must be made electronically through the online abstract submission portal by October 31, 2017 at 11:59pm PDT:  http://www.eagleson.org/conferences/2nd-international-symposium-to-advance-total-worker-health/abstract-submission-form-nemc.

TWH 1st International Symposium

On October 6-8, 2014, the Office for Total Worker Health hosted the first ever International Symposium to Advance Total Worker Health on the beautiful campus of the National Institutes for Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

NIOSH Director Dr. John Howard kicked off the conference with a rousing keynote address that likely resonated with the goals of many participants, noting “Ensuring safe work for all workers is what we do. What brings us all here [to this conference] is the desire to do more for the worker than we do now.”

All in all, more than 100 esteemed presenters from nonprofit, government, private, and academic institutions shared their perspectives on Total Worker Health.

Even if you were unable to attend the Symposium, there are ample opportunities to learn about the proceedings and contribute to the conversation around Total Worker Health.
