This line graph shows reported TB cases in the United States from 1982 to 2011. The resurgence of TB in the mid-1980s was marked by several years of increasing case counts until its peak in 1992. Case counts began decreasing again in 1993, and 2011 marks the nineteenth year of declines in the total number of TB cases reported in the U.S. since the peak of the resurgence.

This bar chart shows TB rates by race/ethnicity in 2011. TB rates among racial/ethnic minorities are much higher than those of whites. The rate of TB among Asians was 21.4 cases per 100,000 population, 6.3 per 100,000 population among blacks, 5.9 per 100,000 populations among Hispanics and 0.8 per 100,000 among whites.

This pie chart shows the proportion of TB cases by national origin for 2011. 62.5 percent of TB cases occurred among foreign-born individuals, while 37.5 percent of TB cases occurred among US-born individuals. In fact, the TB rate among foreign-born persons (17.3/100,000) was 12 times higher than among U.S.-born persons (1.5).
