Objective: Develop a framework for a statistical analysis of the association between healthy home-based interventions and decrease of frequency and severity of asthma symptoms, while at the same time enhancing quality of life. The evaluation will also assess the training and education program’s success in raising knowledge and awareness of issues related to asthma and healthy homes.

Abstract: This evaluation plan is for the Kansas City Safe and Healthy Home Partnership (KCSHHP). The program comprises four major intervention areas to asthma-affected families in the Kansas City metropolitan region: school air-quality improvement, patient/provider education, community capacity building, and direct home-based interventions (including education). Specifically, the evaluation plan is primarily to assess the U.S. Housing and Urban Development demonstration grant, which will provide home-based interventions and education to 300 families affected by both intermittent (level 1) and persistent (level 2) asthma. Evaluation of the Healthy Home Program requires an understanding how this program operates, nested as it is within a larger, more comprehensive healthy home, school, and asthma management program implemented by the Children’s Mercy Hospitals & Clinics. In addition to evaluating the Healthy Home Program, this evaluation will also demonstrate the effectiveness and sustainability of the community training and education portion of the KCSHHP partnership.
