CDC to Host Second Weight of the Nation Conference to Address Obesity

Weight of the Nation Conference
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will host its second Weight of the Nation conference, designed to provide a forum to highlight progress in the prevention and control of obesity through policy, systems and environmental approaches to help advance healthy eating and active living.  Detailed information about the conference is available at http://www.cdc.gov/won/.

Plenary – Obesity: Past, Present, Future
Panelists will include Cynthia Ogden, PhD, MRP, senior epidemiologist, CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics; Sam Kass, Assistant Chief and Senior Policy Advisory for Healthy Food Initiatives at the White House, and Justin Trogdon, PhD, MA, health economist with RTI International, Public Health Economics Program.

 Media Telebriefing: Obesity and Severe Obesity Forecasts through 2030
Speakers will include Eric Finkelstein, PhD, MHA, MA, Duke Medical School, William Dietz, MD, PhD, Director, CDC′s Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity, and Justin Trogdon, PhD, MA, RTI International.

 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
 HBO Screening Event:  Preview screening of one installment of the upcoming HBO documentary series, “The Weight of the Nation.”
