കണ്ണീച്ച

ക്ലോറോപിഡെ (Chloropidae) ഒരു ഈച്ച കുടുംബമാണ് [1] ലോകത്താകമാനം 160 ജനുസുകളിലായി 2000-ൽ അധികം ഇനങ്ങളെ ഇതുവരെ വിവരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. വളരെച്ചെറുതും കറുപ്പോ മഞ്ഞയോ നിറവുമുള്ള ഇവ രോമമില്ലാത്തതിനാൽ തിളക്കമുള്ളവയാണ്. ഇവയുടെ ലാർവകൾ സസ്യഭുക്ക് ആണ്. പരാദ സ്വഭാവവും വേട്ടയാടുന്ന സ്വഭാവവും ഉള്ളവയുമുണ്ട്. അപൂർവം ചിലയിനങ്ങൾ മറ്റുള്ളവരുടെ ഭക്ഷണം തട്ടിയെടുക്കുന്നു. Hippelates, Siphunculina (ഉദാ: S. funicola) എന്നീ ജനുസിൽപ്പെട്ടവ മനുഷ്യർ ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള സസ്തനികളുടെ കണ്ണുകളിൽനിന്നും കണ്ണുനീർ കുടിക്കുന്നതിനാൽ അവയെ കണ്ണീച്ച എന്നും വിളിക്കാറുണ്ട്. [2][3]
