দিরাক মেডেল

দিরাক মেডেল (ইংরেজি: Dirac Medal) তাত্ত্বিক পদার্থবিদ্যা, গাণিতিক রসায়ন এবং গণিতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অবদানের জন্য বিভিন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠান কর্তৃক প্রদত্ত চারটি পুরস্কার। বিংশ শতাব্দীর মহান তাত্ত্বিক পদার্থবিদদের মধ্যে অন্যতম অধ্যাপক পল দিরাকের নামে এই পুরস্কারের নামকরণ করা হয়েছে।

পাবলিক ডিরাক বক্তৃতা উপলক্ষে তাত্ত্বিক পদার্থবিজ্ঞানে অগ্রগতির জন্য প্রথম প্রতিষ্ঠিত দিরাক মেডেল পুরস্কার প্রদান করে যৌথভাবে নিউ সাউথ ওয়েলস বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, সিডনি, অস্ট্রেলিয়া এবং অস্ট্রেলিয়ান ইনস্টিটিউট অফ ফিজিক্স।[1] বক্তৃতা ও পদক, ১৯৭৫ সালে অধ্যাপক ডিরাকের এই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় পরিদর্শন এবং পাঁচটি বক্তৃতার স্মারক। পরবর্তীতে বক্তৃতাগুলি একটি বই হিসাবে প্রকাশিত হয়, ডিরেকসন্স অফ ফিজিস্ক (উইলি, ১৯৭৮ - এইচ হোরা. এবং জে. শেপানস্কি, ইডিএস)। ডিরাক লেকচার সিরিজ প্রতিষ্ঠার জন্য এই বই এর রয়্যালটি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়কে দান করেন অধ্যাপক ডিরাক। পুরস্কার হিসেবে একটি রৌপ্য পদক এবং সম্মানী দেয়া হয়। ১৯৭৯ সালে এ পুরস্কার প্রথম প্রদান করা হয়।

Dirac Medal of the ICTP

The Dirac Medal of the ICTP is given each year by the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in honour of পদার্থবিজ্ঞানী পল দিরাক. The award, announced each year on 8 August (Dirac's birthday), was first awarded in 1985.[3]

An international committee of distinguished scientists selects the winners from a list of nominated candidates. The Committee invites nominations from scientists working in the fields of theoretical physics or mathematics.

The Dirac Medal of the ICTP is not awarded to Nobel Laureates, Fields Medalists, or Wolf Prize winners.[3] However, several Dirac Medallists have subsequently won one of these awards.[4][5][6][7]

Dirac Medal of the IOP

The Dirac Medal is awarded annually by the Institute of Physics (Britain's and Ireland's main professional body for physicists) for "outstanding contributions to theoretical (including mathematical and computational) physics". The award, which includes a silver gilt medal and a £1000 prize, was decided upon by the Institute of Physics in 1985, and first granted in 1987.
