Violence against Children Surveys: Key Partners

Violence against Children

Using science to fuel action and end violence against children

Together for Girls

CDC works closely with Together for Girls to address violence against children worldwide. Together for Girls is a global public-private partnership dedicated to breaking the cycle of violence against children, with a particular focus on sexual violence against girls.

In partnership with governments, civil society and the private sector, Together for Girls calls attention to the issue and mobilizes support for country-driven efforts for change. The partnership includes five UN agencies, the governments of the United States and Canada, several private sector organizations and implementing country governments. UN partners are led by UNICEF (the United Nations Children’s Fund) and include UNAIDS (Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS), UN Women, WHO (World Health Organization) and UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund).

The United States and Canada are represented by their respective agencies, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Violence Prevention; the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief; the U.S. Agency for International Development; the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Global Women’s Issues; and Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada. Private sector partners include BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), Cummins & Partners, and the CDC Foundation.

Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children

The Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children and its associated fund were created in 2015 to unite the world behind a global, national, and local movement to protect the world’s most precious asset – its children. The Partnership, which includes the CDC as a core member, seeks to accomplish these goals:

  • Help countries to work together to end violence against children – address transnational threats to children and hold a Solutions Summit in 2017.
  • Build political will to end violence against children – make violence prevention a global policy priority.
  • Work with countries to accelerate action to tackle the dangers children face – support pathfinder countries who wish to lead the movement to prevent and respond to violence.
