Host Site Profile

PHAP relies on its partnerships with public health agencies and tribal and nongovernmental organizations to serve as host sites for public health associates. These relationships are vital to the development of our nation’s next generation of public health professionals. By exposing associates to a broad variety of public health experiences, host sites provide the foundation upon which future public health professionals and leaders can cultivate their careers. Below is a visual representation of 2016 host sites by agency type.

Successful host sites must be able to fulfill the following requirements:

• Develop work activities that help the host site meet its program goals and for associates to meet the PHAP competencies, and provide associates opportunities to gain experience in one public health program area
• Provide associates with a host site supervisor who has prior supervisory experience and who can monitor the associate’s day-to-day work activities
• Provide training opportunities and robust on-the-job public health experiences suitable for recent bachelor’s and master’s level graduates with little to no public health work experience
• Encourage associates’ professional development
