Publications and Products
NIOSH publishes many types of documents and other products related to the safe management of chemicals in the workplace. You can search for any specific chemical, topic, or NIOSH publication in the NIOSHTIC-2 database. NIOSHTIC-2 is a searchable bibliographic database of occupational safety and health publications, documents, grant reports and other products supported in whole or in part by NIOSH. Some examples of NIOSH chemical documents are provided below.
NIOSH Pocket Guide to Chemical Hazards
A source of industrial hygiene information, including NIOSH recommendations, on several hundred chemicals and classes of chemicals found in the work environment.
NIOSH Manual of Analytical Methods (NMAM)
The 5th edition of NMAM is a collection of methods for the collection and analysis of samples in the workplace. These methods have been developed or adapted by NIOSH or its partners and have been evaluated according to established experimental protocols and performance criteria.
NIOSH List of Antineoplastic and Other Hazardous Drugs in Healthcare Settings, 2016
This 2016 update of the NIOSH list of hazardous drugs adds 34 drugs, five of which have safe-handling recommendations from the manufacturers.
The current strategy for assigning NIOSH skin notations relies on multiple skin notations to provide users a warning on the direct, systemic, and sensitizing effects of exposures of the skin to chemicals.
NIOSH Documentation for Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health Values
NIOSH IDLH values are derived to protect workers from an atmospheric concentration of any toxic, corrosive, or asphyxiants substance that poses an immediate threat to life or would cause irreversible or delayed adverse health effects or would interfere with an individual’s ability to escape from a dangerous atmosphere.
Criteria Documents
These NIOSH documents provide the basis for comprehensive occupational safety and health standards.
