Case Study A:
Communicating Concerns: Screening and Diagnosis Results
Primary care physicians are responsible for conducting developmental screening in children. If one suspects that a child might have autism spectrum disorder (ASD), the physician must be prepared for a potentially complicated and difficult conversation with the child’s family.
Case Study B:
Making an Autism Spectrum Disorder Diagnosis
The diagnosis of ASD is made on the basis of detailed information obtained from the child’s caregivers, careful observation and assessment of the child, and the use of standardized tools.
Continuing Education
This module has been approved for the following:
- CME: 1.75
- CNE: 1.6
- CEU: 0.2
Following completion of all case studies in a module, please go to www.cdc.gov/TCEOnline to evaluate the course and receive a certificate of completion. You can also print an ongoing transcript of all your TCEOnline CE activities to secure continuing education hours. You must complete all case studies in this module to receive continuing education hours; you can take them at once or at different times.
CME and Maintenance of Certification Approved
Physicians who complete all three modules and provide an accurate American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) number will also be credited 20 points toward Maintenance of Certification Part 2 through ABP.
The American Board of Pediatrics portfolios will be updated to reflect credit by the 10th of the month following completion of all courses. Any modules completed after December 1 will be credited for the following year. ABP will notify you by email when points have been applied.
