Costs of Injuries for States

Injuries created a significant economic burden on states in 2014. Hover over the following map for details on the state-level economic burdens of fatal injuries. The number and rate of fatal injuries and lifetime costs were calculated for each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia (DC) for all injuries, including unintentional injuries and violence (suicide and homicide).

The Injury Center empowers and equips states with the resources and information to address the most pressing injury and violence issues including prescription drug overdose, child abuse and neglect, traumatic brain injury, motor vehicle crash injury, suicide, and intimate partner/sexual violence.
