Injury Control Research Centers National Network

The ICRC program began in 1987 and has grown substantially since its inception—from four centers in 1987 awarded approximately $500,000 per center each year to 10 centers in 2016 awarded approximately $800,000 per center annually. Typically, ICRCs are funded for 5 years through an externally-reviewed, competitive process. Congress currently appropriates roughly $10 million to the CDC ICRC program “. . . to support core operations; conduct the research necessary to fill gaps in the evidence base for developing and evaluating new injury control interventions and improving translation of effective interventions; conduct training of injury control professionals; and undertake other programmatic activities to reduce the burden of injury.
