Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Infectious Diseases (ELC)

$35.8 million to 51 total grantees (49 states; Washington, DC; and Puerto Rico)

 

Activity A (# grantees = 48)

Percentage of grantees submitting state HAI plans to HHS

  • 48 ÷ 48 total grantees =  100%   

Percentage of grantees with approved state HAI plans

  • 48 ÷ 48 total grantees =100%

Percentage of grantees with a HAI prevention coordinator in place

  • 48 ÷ 48 grantees funded for Activity A =  100%   

 

Activity B (# grantees = 31)

Percentage of all hospitals participating in NHSN (sum of all NHSN HOSP categories ÷ 2008 AHA data)

  • 2,308 ÷ 4,785 total hospitals (of 31 grantees funded for Activity B) =  48.2%.  

Percentage of grantees in which 80% or more of hospitals are participating in NHSN

  • 6 ÷ 31 grantees funded for Activity B =  19.4%.

 

Activity C (# grantees = 28)

Number of grantees with 1 or more new or expanded HAI prevention collaboratives possessing all 4 key attributes of a strong prevention collaborative (Multidisciplinary Oversight/Advisory Group; Staffing; Communication Strategy; Outcome Measurement System) =  20   

  • Total number of new or expanded collaboratives possessing all 4 key attributes =  35

Number of grantees with 1 or more new or expanded HAI prevention collaboratives possessing at least 1 of the 4 key attributes of a strong prevention collaborative* (see above) =  23

  • Total number of new or expanded collaboratives possessing at least 1 of the 4 key attributes =  39

 

All Grantees

Percentage of grantees that have a standardized infection ratio (SIR) for central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) that is significantly less than 1 (among grantees that were funded for Activity C and have identified CLABSI as a prevention target, and that have submitted enough data to produce a reliable SIR; data from the time period January – June, 2009)

  • 11 ÷ 21 grantees = 52.4%

 

Emerging Infections Program (EIP)

$4 million to 10 total grantees (states: CA, CO, CT, GA, MD, MN, NM, NY, OR, TN)

Percentage of research questions addressed in reports of funded projects

  • Projects are in developmental stages; data will be summarized at end of ARRA funding period
