Job Seekers: U.S. Citizens

Thank you for considering CDC global health opportunities as part of your job search. Global public health is a field where you can make a difference!

CDC hires staff to work abroad through several employment mechanisms: career civil service, US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, contracts, and fellowships or internships.

Career Civil Service Employment

Federal employees are hired through the official job site of the United States Federal Government: www.usajobs.gov. Visit this website to set up an account and receive e-mail notifications about current vacancies of interest to you. To view current jobs postings for overseas employment, click here.

CDC global health programs recently issued Open Continuous (OC) Vacancy Announcements to allow rapid recruitment and hiring of overseas assignees.

OC Vacancy Announcements target applicants in four job titles: epidemiologist, public health advisor, health scientist and medical officer. Please read the directions carefully and fully answer every question. For more detailed information about the application process download the Applying for Work Overseas presentation.

Non-Personal Services Contracts

CDC has agreements with a number of private companies to provide staff for a variety of global health positions. Employment as a contractor is available through these companies. As a contractor, you are categorized as an employee of a specific company that has a contract with the CDC, rather than as a federal employee. Terms of employment and benefits are specified by the contractor, not the CDC.

Following is a list of firms with current CDC contracts for overseas assignments. If you are interested in serving with one of these companies, contact them directly:

Fellowships/Internships

Please see the Students or Recent Graduates page.

U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps

The Commissioned Corps is a uniformed nonmilitary service with a distinct uniform, insignia, titles, pay, benefits and retirement protocols that correspond to those of the uniformed military services. Commissioned Corps officers are employed in 11 disciplines: dentists, dieticians, engineers, health service officers, nurses, pharmacists, physicians, sanitarians, scientists, therapists, and veterinarians. Officers may apply for any position in the PHS agencies. To learn more about the Commissioned Corps, visit http://www.usphs.gov/.
