Map Details - Alaska Poverty and Education Measures by Public Health Regions

Return to Map Gallery

Impact Statement

These four maps display an interaction between poverty and education in Alaska. It is interesting to note that regions that are lowest in child poverty are not necessarily the same regions as those lowest in adult poverty, a distinction that may be important to programs that have varied primary audiences. Priority regions for outreach based on education level of the population also vary somewhat depending on whether you are looking at high school or college education. GIS can help us visualize key socio-economic factors to better tailor our efforts to promote a safe and healthy Alaska.

Health Equity is a priority of the Alaska Division of Public Health. These maps aim to illustrate a few key social context variables throughout the state of Alaska to help a variety of programs as they consider social context in their attempts to address disparities in health promotion efforts.
