Because of her family history, Cara’s father encouraged her to get genetic counseling and to be tested for a BRCA gene mutation. At 22, she tested positive for a BRCA gene mutation and chose the path of surveillance. After her first breast MRI, Cara was diagnosed with breast cancer.
