Some of the chemicals released into the soil and groundwater at the Gorham Silver site are called volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These VOCs are tetrachloroethylene (PCE), trichloroethylene (TCE), and vinyl chloride (VC). Dioxin, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), cyanides, and heavy metals were released also.
