Administration

  • Type: Inhaled corticosteroid
  • Dosage Forms: 100, 200 mcg/actuation MDI
  • Routes of Administration: Inhalation

Adult Dosing

  • Prior medium dose inhaled steroid
    • 2 puffs (100 mcg/actuation) q 12h
      • Max: 800 mcg/day
      • Taper to lowest effective dose
  • Prior high dose inhaled steroid
    • 2 puffs (200 mcg/actuation) q 12h
      • Max: 800 mcg/day
      • Taper to lowest effective dose
  • Prior oral steorid
    • 2 puffs (200 mcg/actuation) q 12h
      • Max: 800 mcg/day
      • Taper to lowest effective dose. Taper oral steroids gradually after > 1wk

Pediatric Dosing

  • 12+ yo, Prior medium dose inhaled steroid
    • 2 puffs (100 mcg/actuation) q 12h
      • Max: 800 mcg/day
      • Taper to lowest effective dose
  • 12+ yo, Prior high dose inhaled steroid
    • 2 puffs (200 mcg/actuation) q 12h

Mechanism of Action

Exact mechanism of anti-inflammatory action unknown. Inhibits multiple inflammatory cytokines and produces multiple glucocorticoid and mineralcorticoid effects.
