Healthy People 2020 Focus Objectives: Women and Girl’s Health Issues

Developed by the Department of Health and Human Services, Healthy People (HP) 2020 provides science-based, 10-year national objectives for improving the health of all Americans. Healthy People has established benchmarks and monitored progress over time in order to encourage collaborations across communities and sectors; empower individuals toward making informed health decisions; measure impact of prevention activities.

Women and girl’s health goals are addressed in sixteen of the 42 topic areas of HP 2020, including objectives that are still in development. This page outlines the women and girls objectives for the HP 2020 initiatives.

Healthy People 2020 strives to:

  • Identify nationwide health improvement priorities
  • Increase public awareness and understanding of the determinants of health, disease, and disability and the opportunities for progress
  • Provide measurable objectives and goals that are applicable at the national, state, and local levels
  • Engage multiple sectors to take actions to strengthen policies and improve practices that are driven by the best available evidence and knowledge
  • Identify critical research, evaluation, and data collection needs

HP 2020 has established benchmarks and monitors progress over time in order to:

  • Encourage collaborations across communities and other sectors
  • Empower individuals to make informed health decisions
  • Measure the impact of prevention activities

How to read this table:

HP 2020 is organized into 42 topic areas with corresponding objectives. Women and girl’s health goals are addressed in sixteen of the 42 topic areas and are highlighted in the following tables. Each topic links to the full list of topic areas on the HP 2020 Web site.

HP 2020 also includes objectives that are in development. The objectives that are associated with women and girl’s health are included in this table.
