Speakers' Biographies
John Eichwald, MA
Chief, Child Development and Disability Branch, National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities, CDC
John Eichwald, MA, is branch chief of Child Development and Disability within CDC’s National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities. He is an audiologist, currently detailed to the Office of Science in CDC’s National Center for Environmental Health. John began his career at CDC in 2004 as the team lead for the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Program. Prior to CDC, he spent nearly 20 years at the Utah Department of Health serving in both clinical and administrative positions.
Dr. William Hal Martin, PhD
Co-director, Dangerous Decibels
William Hal Martin, PhD, is co-director of Dangerous Decibels, a public health campaign designed to reduce the incidence and prevalence of noise-induced hearing loss and tinnitus by changing knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of school-aged children. Dr. Martin is a professor at the National University of Singapore, where he is building the audiology program. Prior to this position, he was a professor of otorhinolaryngology/head and neck surgery and a professor of public health and preventive medicine at the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) in Portland. Dr. Martin is also a multi-program director at the Oregon Hearing Research Center at OHSU.
Dr. Brian Fligor, Sc.D., PASC
Chief audiology officer, Lantos Technologies
Brian Fligor, Sc.D., PASC, is the chief audiology officer at Lantos Technologies. Prior to this position, Dr. Fligor was the director of diagnostic audiology at Boston Children’s Hospital and an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. He is founder and past-chair of the Task Force on Music-Induced Hearing Disorders for the National Hearing Conservation Association. His research in noise-induced hearing loss from using portable media players with headphones was recently highlighted by CBS Evening News and by NBC Nightly News
