Tony Fiore, MD, MPH

Chief, Epidemiology Research and Innovations Branch, Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion,
National Center for Emerging & Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, CDC

Anthony (Tony) Fiore, MD, MPH, is a medical epidemiologist and infectious diseases physician. Since January 2015, he has been chief of the Epidemiology Research and Innovations Branch, Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, leading projects aimed at preventing or reducing healthcare-associated infections and sepsis. He holds the rank of captain in the Commissioned Corps of the United States Public Health Service and is Board Certified in infectious diseases.

Jim O’Brien, MD

Vice President, Quality and Patient Safety, Riverside Methodist Hospital, OhioHealth

Jim O’Brien, MD, is the vice president of Quality and Patient Safety at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital. A medical intensivist by training, Jim began his career at OhioHealth in July 2012 after an academic career as a successful clinical researcher and epidemiologist, publishing more than 50 articles and chapters in peer review journals. He currently oversees multiple quality improvement projects and is responsible for Riverside’s efforts toward patient safety, regulatory compliance, and utilization management. Jim is the past Chair of the Quality Improvement Committee of the American College of Chest Physicians and currently serves on a Society of Critical Care Medicine Committee developing a support infrastructure for survivors of critical illness and on a Critical Care Societies Collaborative task force defining core competencies for providers of critical care services.

Jim serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors and medical advisor to Sepsis Alliance—a not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of sepsis by educating patients, families, and healthcare professionals to treat sepsis as a medical emergency.

Marcus Friedrich, MD, MBA

Medical Director, Office of Quality and Patient Safety, New York State Department of Health

Marcus Friedrich, MD, MBA, is the medical director for the Office of Quality and Patient Safety within the New York State Department of Health. He works with the clinical leadership at the New York State Department of Health and is helping in the development of quality measurement and improvement programs within Medicaid and health insurance plans.

Dr. Friedrich currently works on an ongoing collaborative of clinical providers, hospitals, and payers in a regional multi-year medical home demonstration incorporating care and payment reform, making use of regional health data exchange engaging claims and clinical, electronic health record information. He is also involved in the statewide sepsis campaign, public reporting on cardiac services and stroke, office based surgery, antibiotic stewardship, prenatal care and other programs statewide.

Dr. Friedrich joined the Department of Health from Northwell Health, Manhasset, NY, where he worked as a medical director for the Northwell Health Clinical Integrated IPA.

He received his medical degree from the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine and completed his MBA at Hagen University in Hagen, Germany. He did his residence in Internal Medicine at Northwell Lenox Hill Hospital and completed a physician administrative fellowship at Northwell Health before becoming faculty at the North Shore University Hospital Department of Medicine. He is a practicing primary care physician in the community.

Kelly Court, MBA

Chief Quality Officer, Wisconsin Hospital Association

Kelly Court, MBA, is the chief quality officer for the Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA). As a member of the senior leadership team, Kelly’s role is to advance WHA initiatives for public reporting of healthcare quality measures, provide leadership direction to statewide projects to improve hospital quality performance and serve as an expert in issues related to healthcare quality policy. She has served in the roles of quality director at Sacred Heart Hospital, in Eau Claire, WI, and Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire, vice president of quality at Great River Medical Center in Burlington, IA, and as the chief quality officer for the Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality. Kelly has experience as a national examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Her areas of expertise include quality measurement, improvement, patient safety, and patient experience.

Kelly has an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and a bachelor of science degree in medical technology.
