Steven L. Reynolds, MPH

Deputy Director

Steven L. Reynolds, MPH, is the deputy director for CDC’s Office for State, Tribal, Local and Territorial Support (OSTLTS). Reynolds oversees day-to-day office operations including budget, personnel, program management, policy, and communications.

As a strong advocate for state and local public health, Reynolds comes to OSTLTS with a distinguished record for forging collaborations with public health partners nationwide. He has more than 29 years of federal service, first with the US Air Force and then with CDC since 1992. He brings to this role a broad range of public health experience working in local and state health departments in Chicago, Illinois; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and Houston, Texas.

He has worked within a variety of public health programs within CDC, including CDC’s National Center for Environmental Health’s Division of Environmental Hazards and Health Effects; the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry; the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion’s Division of Cancer Prevention and Control; and the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD and TB Prevention’s Division of STD Prevention.

Reynolds has served in leadership positions in communications, policy, program development, and program implementation. Just prior to taking the position with OSTLTS, he had the leadership role for developing, implementing, and directing the policy unit for the CDC 2009 H1N1 Incident Response. Before assuming this role, he was the senior advisor to the director of the Coordinating Center for Environmental Health and Injury Prevention.

Reynolds earned a bachelor of science degree with honors in public relations from Northern Michigan University and a master of public health with an emphasis on economic evaluation and health promotion from the University of Texas.
