A public meeting will be held on September 17, 2013 to discuss Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Conformity Assessment.

In response to recommendations made by the National Academies [and its Institute of Medicine (IOM)], the NIOSH Personal Protective Technology (PPT) Conformity Assessment Working Group (PCAWG) was established in 2011 by NIOSH NPPTL. The purpose of the PPT Conformity Assessment Working Group is to prepare a national framework establishing criteria, including comprehensive and consistent processes, to address conformity assessment of non-respiratory personal protective equipment (PPE).

The purpose of the Public Meeting is to provide 1) a summary of the work conducted by the PCAWG over its two years in existence, 2) provide an overview of a model CA program, and 3) describe a national framework for moving PPE conformity assessment forward for the Nation. The Draft PPE Conformity Assessment Framework document is available in NIOSH Docket Number 237-A .

This meeting will be held at the NPPTL facility in Pittsburgh from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM EDT and will also be available via live meeting participation. Registration is required for both options. View the Agenda [PDF - 345 KB] .

An opportunity for individuals or organization representatives wishing to offer verbal comments (five minute time limit) will be provide as time permits after the breakout reports. Time slots are limited and available on a first-come basis. Those attending via LiveMeeting will be given an opportunity to make comments at the end of the meeting as time permits. In addition, all persons are welcome to submit written comments through www.regulations.gov .

For Non-U.S. Citizens (if applicable) — Federal clearance requirements for non-U.S. citizens to enter a federal facility requires a minimum 30 days to process. You must complete the NIOSH Security Information Requirements for Non-U.S. Citizens Visitors Form and submit it to NPPTL Event Management along with a copy of your passport by August 16, 2013. NIOSH approval must be granted before admittance to the NIOSH site will be allowed. All meeting attendees must show a valid photo I.D. (preferably a driver’s license), and all foreign national citizens must show a current passport, before admittance to the site will be permitted.

Inward Leakage Performance Requirement

Comment Period Extended to December 31, 2013: On September 17 2013, NIOSH held a public meeting concerning inward leakage performance requirements for the class of NIOSH-certified non-powered air-purifying particulate respirators approved as half-facepiece respirators for protection from particulate-only hazards. The purpose of this meeting was to share information and to seek stakeholder feedback concerning the development of inward leakage performance standards. Questions concerning the identified topics of specific interest were included in the meeting notice published in the Federal Register on September 4, 2013. 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM EDT

On September 17, 2013 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM EDT NIOSH NPPTL will host a meeting regarding the inward leakage performance requirements for the class of NIOSH-certified non-powered respirators approved under the provisions of Subpart K of 42 CFR Part 84, as half-facepiece (or quarter mask) respirators for protection from particulate-only hazards. The purpose of this meeting is to share information and to seek stakeholder feedback concerning proposed performance requirements. Supporting documents can be accessed in Docket 250 .
