On October 18, 19, and 20, 2011, many of the foremost researchers in occupational injury convened in Morgantown, West Virginia at the Waterfront Place Hotel to present their latest findings and methods at the fifth National Occupational Injury Research Symposium (NOIRS). The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), in partnership with the Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety (LMRIS) and the National Safety Council (NSC), hosted NOIRS 2011 to provide a forum for researchers to share their findings and methods related to traumatic occupational injuries with others.

The symposium consisted of contributed oral presentations in concurrent sessions and poster presentations. The presentations described research studies, methods, and findings related to traumatic occupational injuries.

NOIRS 2011 was the fifth such symposium focusing on research for the prevention of work-related traumatic injuries.
