PREVENTION

FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING

FIRE Not combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.

In case of fire in the surroundings: use appropriate extinguishing media.
EXPLOSION

EXPOSURE

•INHALATION
Local exhaust or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest.
•SKIN
Protective gloves.
Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS TO WHITE HYGROSCOPIC CRYSTALLINE POWDER

PHYSICAL DANGERS:

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating above 160°C producing ammonia , nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides . The solution in water is a weak acid. Attacks mild steel. Contact with hot water may cause formation of large amounts of steam. Reacts with acids and strong oxidants .

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV: 10 mg/m3 as TWA; (ACGIH 2004).
MAK: IIb, value not established but data is available (DFG 2004).
OSHA PEL: TWA 15 mg/m3 (total) TWA 5 mg/m3 (resp)
NIOSH REL: TWA 10 mg/m3 (total) TWA 5 mg/m3 (resp)
NIOSH IDLH: 1500 mg/m3 See: 7773060

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful concentration of airborne particles can be reached quickly on spraying or when dispersed, especially if powdered.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is irritating to the eyes .

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
