What

CDC’s Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) – better known as CDC’s disease detective program – kicks off its annual conference in Atlanta, GA. The event showcases EIS investigations conducted over the past year. CDC disease detectives were among the first to respond to the Ebola outbreak, and many continue to battle the virus in efforts to get to zero new cases. They also fought domestic health threats such as EV-D68, sexually transmitted diseases, foodborne illnesses and chronic disease. The EIS conference covers a wide range of health topics and gives reporters the opportunity to speak with the first responders to health threats.

When

April 20, 2015 – April 23, 2015

Where

Crowne Plaza Ravinia Hotel, 4355 Ashford Dunwoody Road, Atlanta, GA 30346.

Background:

EIS is a two-year postgraduate program that trains physicians and other health professionals in skills necessary to investigate infectious disease outbreaks and epidemics. Since 1951, more than 3,500 EIS officers have responded to international and domestic health threats. Nearly half of the lead state epidemiologists and four of the last seven CDC Directors, including Dr. Tom Frieden, are EIS graduates.
