CGH Management Official: Kay E. Lawton, RN, MN

Kay E. Lawton, RN, MN has been with CDC since 1988 and has worked in a variety of roles in different Divisions/Centers, including these: Nurse Consultant in Division of TB Elimination; Training Specialist, Epidemiologist, and Deputy Branch Chief in Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention; and most recently as Deputy Division Director in the Division of Parasitic Diseases and Malaria (DPDM). She refers to her early experiences in DPDM as a dream job and remembers fondly working at field stations in Kenya and Guatemala.

Before joining CDC, Kay enjoyed 9 years of hands-on clinical and research roles in TB, STDs, and maternal/child health as a public health nurse with the DeKalb County Board of Health in Atlanta. That experience made for an easy transition to future roles in public health at CDC. She is proud to have been afforded opportunities to pursue her professional goals in public health management. Kay attributes her success to outstanding mentors and supervisors, including Willis Forrester and Mark Eberhard, who always challenged her to keep growing professionally and to seek new challenges.
