STOP: Immunization and Surveillance Data Specialist (ISDS) Position

General Overview

The Stop Transmission of Polio (STOP) program is recruiting qualified Immunization and Surveillance Data Specialists to participate in STOP teams. STOP Immunization and Surveillance Data Specialists (ISDS) will be deployed as volunteers for WHO or UNICEF to resource-limited countries. The volunteer deployment period is 5 months.

STOP ISDS participants support Ministries of Health, WHO and UNICEF to develop system and human resource capacity, strengthen health information systems to improve immunization and vaccine-preventable disease (VPD) surveillance data quality. The primary responsibility of STOP ISDS participants is to develop capacity at all levels of the health information system to strengthen data management processes and improve the quality of VPD surveillance and immunization data.

STOP ISDS participants take a systems-focused approach to identify root causes of challenges and develop specific, targeted, actionable strategies that result in sustainable improvement with specific objectives to:

  • Improve the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of recording and reporting of VPD surveillance and immunization data
  • Improve data archiving, analysis, interpretation and use of VPD surveillance and immunization data for evidence-based decision making and action
  • Identify VPD surveillance and immunization data quality challenges and develop targeted, actionable recommendations

STOP ISDS participants must have strong mentorship skills and experience planning and facilitating training, be proactive and flexible, and work well under difficult conditions with people of different cultures.

Position Requirements

The STOP Program is seeking experienced communications professionals with extensive experience working in health communications, C4D and social mobilization. To qualify, candidates must have:

  • 5+ years of experience as an immunization/surveillance data manager, with specific experience in:
    • Planning and facilitation of training related to data management processes
    • Directly supporting public health surveillance or immunization health information systems
    • Developing system and/or human resource capacity to strengthen health information systems
    • Developing and/or implementing data quality assurance processes or data quality control activities
  • A graduate degree in a relevant field, or 10+ years of experience working in the field of public health communications
  • Fluency in English or French
  • Fluency in a second language desired, particularly Arabic or Spanish
  • Previous experience working or studying internationally is desired
