Overview for CE Developers

Due to the large volume of requests and limited resources, we cannot accept any standard CE requests for educational activities that start before January 2, 2018. However, we are accepting Fast Track CE requests.

CDC’s Continuing Education (CE) team provides accreditation services to CDC programs as well as to CDC partners that are developing an educational activity that have received funding from a CDC grant, cooperative agreement, interagency agreement, or contract that conveys the intention to use the funding for training or workforce development.

CDC’s CE team consultants and nurse planners coach and provide technical assistance to developers to ensure that proposed CE activities meet education design and accreditation standards.

CDC provides CE for U.S. health professionals and the global health community. Access to credits, continuing education units (CEUs), and contact hours for all educational activities is provided at no cost.

CE for Health Professionals

CDC is accredited to award CE for the following health professionals:

  • Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES)
  • Certified Public Health Professionals
  • Nurses
  • Pharmacists
  • Physicians
  • Veterinarians
  • Other health professionals

Formats of CE Activities

CE activities are presented in various formats for professionals in multiple disciplines (interdisciplinary teams) within healthcare and public health who practice in communities and in clinical settings on a range of topics (e.g., health promotion, disease prevention, injury and disability, preparedness, and rapid-response education for emerging threats).

Evaluation and impact of CE activity is measured by:

  • Change in learner knowledge and competence
  • Satisfaction of professional practice requirements
  • Learner satisfaction, participation, and professional development

Activity Formats

CDC is accredited to provide continuing education (CE) through live educational activities, enduring materials, and manuscript review.

Accreditation Statements

The accreditation and designation statements specified for each type of CE provided must appear on all promotional materials once the proposal is certified for CE.

Promotional Materials

All course materials, marketing materials, certificates, and other materials for participants, must include specific statements describing the CE provided.

CE Renewal

Enduring, recurring, and series types of educational activities are accredited for 2 years. (See Formats of CE Activities to determine your activity’s type.) A CE activity can be renewed for an additional 2 years if there are no changes to the activity’s content.
